Features

Everything on the canvas, and what it is ready for

DX Pro is one native Windows application for the whole station. Every function below is a widget you drop on the canvas, size and arrange — or a capability those widgets share. Each one carries an honest status, so you know exactly what you are buying today and what is still being built.

Available in today's pre-1.0 development builds In development being written now Planned on the roadmap
01

Layout & touch

There is no fixed main window to fight. The station is a canvas, and you decide what sits where.

Drag-and-drop widget canvas

Available

Every function is a widget: drop it from the palette, drag it into place, size it from its grip, and build the station around the way you actually operate.

Several workspaces

Available

Keep a DX layout, a digital layout and a transmit-setup layout side by side and switch between them with one tap.

Pop-out windows

Available

Any widget can leave the canvas for its own window — put the cluster or a second panadapter on another monitor.

Finger-first controls

Available

Controls are sized for a fingertip, so a 27-inch touch screen or a convertible laptop works as well as a mouse and keyboard.

02

Receivers & spectrum

Up to seven receivers at once on Hermes-class radios, each with its own panadapter, DSP and audio.

Up to seven receivers

Available

On Hermes-class radios, seven receivers run at once, each tuned independently with its own chain.

Panadapter + waterfall

Available

One per receiver, with a glow look. Pinch or drag to zoom, tap to tune, drag the passband.

3D terrain waterfall

Available

The waterfall as a landscape: signal history rises as ridges, so a fading opening shows its shape at a glance.

Band Ribbon

Available

The whole of HF as one strip, marking every receiver and the density of cluster spots on each band.

Receivers widget

Available

RX1 to RX7 keys: one tap picks the receiver you are working with.

VFO

Available

VFO A and B, copy and swap, lock, RIT, and SPLIT and XIT for pile-ups.

VFO Wheel

Available

A big on-screen tuning knob, made to be spun with a finger.

Bands with band stack

Available

One key per band; each band remembers where you left it, so going back puts you where you left it.

S-meter

Available

Signal strength for the active receiver.

Mode & Filter

Available

Mode keys and filter widths sized for touch.

Audio Mixer

Available

Volume, mute and balance per receiver — put RX1 in the left ear and RX2 in the right.

Cluster spots on the panadapter

Available

DX-cluster spots are drawn on every panadapter, filtered by mode — see DX cluster.

03

Receive DSP & Static Reduction

The usual receive tools, plus DX Pro's own noise reduction with separate methods for CW and for voice — at about 8 ms of delay, so it never feels like you are listening through a pipe.

AGC, noise blankers, auto-notch, squelch

Available

Per receiver, so each of your seven receivers can be set up for its own band and conditions.

Notch Bank

Available

Eight notches that follow the VFO: notch a carrier once and it stays notched as you tune.

10-band Graphic EQ

Available

Shape receive audio for your ears or your speaker.

SR1 — line enhancer

Available

Static Reduction for CW and carriers: it lifts steady tones out of the noise while keeping the tone itself.

SR2 VOICE and SR3 DX

Available

Two speech methods: SR2 for everyday voice, SR3 tuned for weak DX speech.

SR5 — spectral subtraction

Available

A classic noise-floor subtraction method for steady background noise.

SR6 — neural (RNNoise)

Available

A neural speech-noise suppressor for voice.

About 8 ms latency

Available

Static Reduction is built to stay quick, so split listening and fast exchanges still feel immediate.

04

Transmit

A full transmit chain on Hermes-class radios — from the microphone to the scope that shows what went out.

Transmit console

Available

PTT tap-to-latch or hold, Tune, Drive and Mic gain, forward power, SWR and ALC, a TX timer and a lockout.

VOX

Available

Voice-operated transmit with level and hang time on the Transmit widget. The lockout always wins.

TX audio source + monitor

Available

Choose your microphone or a virtual cable for digital modes, and pick the output you monitor on.

TX EQ

Available

A 10-band equaliser for your transmitted audio.

TX DSP rack

Available

Noise gate, compressor/limiter and de-esser.

CQ Caller

Available

Four recorded voice messages, sent once or on a loop.

QSO Recorder

Available

Every over between your transmissions is kept. Play it back, send it back to air, or keep it.

TX Monitor Scope

Available

Your transmitted audio spectrum plus 30 seconds of power, SWR, ALC and mic level.

Transmit on FlexRadio

In development

Flex transmit controls are greyed until they have been tested on Flex hardware.

05

CW

CW Keyer

Available

Iambic A and B or straight key, 5 to 60 WPM.

Touch paddles

Available

On-screen DIT and DAH pads, big enough to key with two fingers on a touch screen.

CW Peak Filter

Available

A narrow audio peak on your sidetone pitch to pull one signal out of a crowded band.

SR1 line enhancer

Available

The Static Reduction method built for CW and carriers — see Receive DSP.

CW skimmer from your own receivers

In development

Part of the skimmer service: CW spots from your own receivers alongside the cluster.

06

Digital modes

DX Pro's decoders are written in-house from the published protocols and run inside the application, straight off the receiver. The station automation that turns them into a complete FT8/FT4 station is being written now.

Run an FT8 contact in the demo

FT8 decoder

In development

Written in-house. On a set of 140 real off-air signals it decodes 91 % with no false decodes, using several passes with subtraction and a callsign hash table. The engine is tested; its decode window in the application is being built now.

FT4 decoder

In development

Decodes cleanly down to about −14 dB SNR today; work continues.

Decode list & reply list

In development

Every decode, plus a separate list of who is calling you.

Auto-sequence

In development

CQ → report → RR73 → 73, stepped for you.

Automated run with TX watchdog

In development

Run a frequency hands-off, with a TX watchdog keeping watch on the transmitter.

ADIF auto-log

In development

Completed digital contacts written to an ADIF log.

More digital modes

In development

Further modes, also written in-house.

Virtual-cable TX audio

Available

The TX audio source can take a virtual audio cable instead of your microphone.

07

DX cluster & intelligence

DX Cluster widget

Available

Live spots; tap one to tune the active receiver to it.

Mode detection

Available

Each spot is classed CW, SSB, DIGI, FT8 or FT4 from its comment, the FT8/FT4 windows and the band plan.

One filter everywhere

Available

Set the mode filter once; the spot list and every panadapter obey it.

Spot density on the Band Ribbon

Available

See which bands are busy before you change band.

Skimmer service

In development

CW and FT8 spots from your own receivers.

PSKReporter upload

In development

Share what your receivers hear.

Local cluster port

In development

Feed spots to other programs.

08

Hardware hub

Physical controls are built in — no extra driver programs to keep running alongside.

MIDI controllers

Available

Knobs, faders and buttons on a MIDI controller.

HID foot switches and buttons

Available

A USB foot switch for PTT, or any HID button box.

Works with Elgato Stream Deck

Available

A built-in bridge over WebSocket and HTTP puts DX Pro functions on Stream Deck keys.

Learn mode

Available

Touch the control and it is mapped.

09

Themes

Themes

Available

Several colour themes for the whole canvas, including Tron and Matrix.

Animated backdrops

Available

Moving canvas backdrops behind your widgets for the shack that wants to look the part.

10

Remote

Remote operation is on the roadmap and is not in DX Pro today. Here is how it is planned to work.

Server and Remote roles

Planned

DX Pro as a Server at the radio, and DX Pro as a Remote wherever you are.

Peer-to-peer connection

Planned

Direct connection between the two machines, at no extra cost.

Relay — £4.99/month

Planned

An optional relay subscription for networks where peer-to-peer cannot connect.

Server on Linux and Raspberry Pi 5

Planned

The Server role is being written portably so it can run on Linux and a Raspberry Pi 5.

Licensing

Each machine — Server and Remote — needs its own licence seat. See the remote station example.

11

Radios & platforms

Works with Apache Labs ANAN / openHPSDR Hermes-class

Available

Over Protocol 1 and Protocol 2, with up to seven receivers.

Works with FlexRadio (SmartSDR API)

In development

Receive now: receive and panadapter are supported. Transmit and second-slice split are in development.

TCI radios and TCI server

Planned

TCI radios such as Expert Electronics SunSDR as radio sources, and a TCI server so other apps can use DX Pro.

CAT radios and rigctld

Planned

Conventional transceivers over CAT, and Hamlib rigctld in and out.

Windows 10/11, 64-bit

Available

DX Pro is a native Windows application. Mac and Linux desktop clients are not promised.
